About the Artist
Based in Southern California, Brett Coats draws inspiration from the region's coastal landscapes, canyon wilderness, and the play of light on the Pacific. His work bridges ancient ceramic traditions with a distinctly West Coast sensibility.
Each creation begins with locally sourced materials and unfolds through a meditative process of wedging, turning, and burning—a transformation that Brett describes as “letting the clay remember the earth it came from.”
The Process
Every piece undergoes a journey of transformation—from raw California earth to refined art.

Carefully selected clays are prepared, aligning particles and removing air for optimal workability.

Each form emerges through an intuitive dialogue between artist and material on the wheel.

Through glazing and firing, raw clay becomes permanent art—a metamorphosis of earth and fire.
Commissions
Brett accepts a limited number of commissions each year, working closely with collectors to create personal works of art.
